Why it’s important

Partager
FROM THE TIME OF BIRTH, BABIES INTERACT WITH THEIR SURROUNDINGS AND, ESPECIALLY, WITH THEIR PARENTS.

A child’s learning and development depend on continued interaction with the environment. Establishing a connection with your baby is therefore of the utmost importance. Whether through games or daily routines, you build a relationship together that establishes values and affects all later interactions with others. Between the little things in life and the special moments, secure attachment through bonding promotes a child’s emotional and social development.

For babies born preterm or with health issues, interaction and socialization may be challenging, especially in the first few months. Behaviour may be unpredictable and difficult to decipher. Cues that signal the baby’s needs and comfort levels may be misinterpreted. It’s frustrating for parents when they don’t understand what the baby wants, why he’s crying. Is the baby eating enough? Why does she have trouble sleeping? At times, the baby may seem out-of-sorts, irritable, not as receptive as usual, or too passive. All these behaviours are normal at times, as long as they don’t persist. Persistently difficult or worrisome behaviours should be flagged.

In this module, you will learn about bonding and attachment. You will learn how to engage in play to bring out the best in your baby. Any time is a good time to interact –through play, daily routines, or even a simple greeting. Come discover your baby and get real close.
